Mr. Charles A. R. George is the proud recipient of the 2021 Spice Isle Award.
The Spice Isle Award is awarded to any person who has rendered truly emulative service in any field of human endeavour or for other humane action.
The award was conferred to Mr. George on Tuesday February 16, by Governor General, Dame Cecile La Grenade, for his contribution to Sports and Community Service. Mr. Charles George serves as a director and Deputy Chairman of the board of Geo. F. Huggins and Co. (G’da) Ltd.
The name “Charlie” George, as he is affectionately called, resonates throughout our tri-island state for his involvement in and contribution to sports, serving as the President of the Grenada Amateur Athletic Association for 20 years and as the 1st VP of the Grenada Olympic Committee for eight years during which time he was instrumental in the formation of the Grenada Paralympic Committee.
“Charlie” served as chair of many Track and Field meets including Whitsuntide Games, CARIFTA, Central American and Caribbean Games and several National Championships.
His love for country extended beyond sports as he served as Deputy Chair and member of the National Carnival and Cultural Development Committee for several years. He was also a founding member of the Mt. Gay Development Community committee, a village where he now resides.
Having been a member of the Cadet Corps at his alma mater, the Grenada Boys Secondary School, Mr. George was instrumental in reviving the Cadet Corps in Grenada, and served as its Commandant from 2009 to 2015 and still holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
